Maðurinn vinnur stöðugt gegn því að vera hluti af náttúrunni. Líf okkar er fullt af tólum og tækjum sem ýta okkur út í að lifa innan veggja stafrænnar tækni. Í staðinn fyrir að berjast gegn tækninni nýtum við hana á nýstárlegan hátt í samblandi við aldagamalt rótgróið japanskt handverk. Skrifað er sérstakt forrit sem lætur tölvuna reikna stensilmynstur til prentunar út frá fyrirfram gefnum forsendum. Hefðbundið handverk mætir tækninni og afraksturinn er túlkaður og unninn á textíl með náttúrulegum aðferðum þar sem hver litur er unninn úr íslenskri náttúru samkvæmt aðferðum og hefðum sem Sigmundur hefur tileinkað sér. Úr verður til einstök verk þar sem tækni er nýtt á skapandi hátt í bland við sjálfbært handverk.

 Fyrir fyrstu seríu í verkefninu Samhljómur notum við forritið til að líkja eftir náttúrulegum vexti plantna þar sem enging planta er eins. Sigmundur sker stensilinn í höndunum eftir hefðum japanskrar stensil litunnar sem er síðan notaður í litunarferlinu. Efnið sem verkin eru unnin á er framleitt í Kyoto og er handspunnið og handofið úr ramí plöntunni eftir gömlu japönskum hefðum. Í litunarferlinu notum við einungis náttúrulegar aðferðir, bakgrunnurinn er litaður með elftingu sem var handdýnd á Íslandi og plantan er lituð með náttúrulegum steindum frá Japan. Myndirnar koma í handsmíðuðum ramma úr íslensku lerki eftir Halldór. Hver planta er unnin í upplagi af 4 en í eðli handverksins endar engin planta eins.

Humanity is constantly working against being one with nature. Our lives are full of devices that push us to live within the frames of digital technology. Rather than resisting technology, we are incorporating it in innovative ways alongside centuries-old Japanese dyeing techniques. A program has been developed to enable the computer to generate patterns for stencil dyeing based on naturally occurring rhythms in nature. This marriage of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology results in the creation of textile art using natural dyeing methods, with each color derived from meticulously researched natural dyeing methods and traditions by Sigmundur. The outcome is a collection of unique textiles works where technology is employed creatively in conjunction with sustainable craftsmanship.

In the initial series of this project, we utilized the program to replicate the organic growth patterns of plants, ensuring that each piece is distinct. Following this, Sigmundur meticulously hand-cuts the stencils used in the dyeing process, in alignment with Japanese traditions. The fabric selected for this project is handwoven and handspun ramie sourced from Kyoto. During the dyeing process, only natural dyes are employed; the background color is achieved using the Icelandic plant "equisitum," while the plant motif is dyed using natural pigments sourced from minerals in Japan. The artworks are elegantly presented in handmade frames crafted from Icelandic larch by Halldór. Each piece is produced in a limited edition of 4, yet due to the nature of the dyeing process, no two works are identical.
