ABOUT

Sigmundur P. F. is an artist based in Reykjavík, Iceland. His artistic practice is rooted in a dialogue with nature—an attempt to slow down, listen, and attune to the hidden rhythms of the world around him. He works exclusively with natural materials and dyes, most of which he gathers himself. This act of sourcing and working with nature becomes an essential part of the process: the landscape shapes the work, and in turn, the process shapes the outcome.

Having studied traditional dyeing techniques at Kyoto Seika University, his time in Japan continues to inspire and inform his artistic language. He is drawn to the depth and discipline of traditional methods, yet is not bound by them. Instead, he reinterprets them freely, exploring how inherited practices can be transformed—and how they might offer relevance in today’s world. His work emerges through a continuous dialogue between past and present, guided by nature and instinct.

Living and working in close proximity to nature, his practice is a process-based exploration into the relationships between material, place, and perception. Through his work, he explores themes of time, memory, and the connection between the land and the possibilities it holds. He hopes to invite others to reconsider their relationship with nature, to find beauty in what is local and seasonal, and to reconnect with a more grounded, reflective pace of life.
